Downloading Android Studio

Downloading Android Studio is as easy as clicking above and hitting install. Follow the instructions and install the IDE. Pretty simple.

Downloading the FTC Project

Unlike OnBot, where everything just works, we have to do some setup. Click on the second link above, and download the Source code (zip) for the latest version available.

Wait for that to download, and extract it from the .zip once it is finished. Move it to somewhere you will be able to locate easily, such as your Desktop or Documents folder.

Importing the FTC Project into Android Studio

Now we need to import the project into Android Studio.

  • Open Android Studio
  • On the Welcome Screen, select Import project (Gradle, Eclipse, ADT, etc.)
  • Select the folder you extracted (not the zip. It should be similar to FtcRobotController)
  • Click OK and allow the import process to start

From here, Android Studio will now import the project. It usually takes a few minutes, so let Android Studio do its thing. When it's finished, it should look neater and say Success near the bottom.

That's it!

Yay! We got Android Studio setup for our codebase. From here, we will start getting into the code, and learning how our file structure works.
