About CSS

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets, and it's used to style HTML documents. HTML was developed to give web pages basic structure, but it wasn't meant to be used for formatting. CSS was developed later for styling purposes. It's used to add colors, fonts, borders, shadows, and other decorative elements, as well as to arrange elements on a page.

What you will need for this course

You should know some HTML basics before starting this course (check out STEMpump's HTML course if you want to learn or need a refresher!). You will also need a text/code editor (we’ll be using VS Code). One of the lessons requires you to make a Font Awesome account to access the icons library - step-by-step instructions on how to set one up are included.

Just as with the HTML course, we recommend you follow along with the lessons and try out new tools in your own HTML/CSS to see exactly how they work. Because the output of the code isn't always included on the lesson page, make sure to try out the example code, and experiment with it to get a better understanding of CSS. Applying what you learn right away will help you learn better than if you were just reading it! This course also includes quizzes and projects for additional practice.
