What is HTML?

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. A markup language is a computer language that uses tags to annotate a raw text document. “HyperText” just refers to the links that are used to navigate within and between web pages.

It's the bare bones of a web page, and it's used to structure the page's contents, like text, images, and buttons. Other languages like CSS and JavaScript can then be used to add styling and functionality to the page.

How Do Web Pages Work?

Web browsers (like Chrome, Safari, etc.) can display HTML code as a web page. The files that make up a website are stored on servers, which your computer can access via the internet when you type a URL address into the browser search bar. But you can also view the HTML you write and save on your own computer using a web browser.
