RPG Maker is a series of programs built for developing RPGs(Role-Playing Games). It is a popular game development engine, with several games made using RPG Maker released on Steam every year.

The most recent program of the RPG Maker series is RPG Maker MV, and it is the program we will be using throughout our lessons.
Creating a new project
To create a new project, open RPG Maker MV and click the paper-like button at the top left. In the pop-up window, name your RPG’s folder in the Name Field. Give the game a Game Title too. Lastly, pick a location on your computer to store it. Then, click ‘OK.’ Your new project will load, eventually.
